Couple fertility assessment
We test both of you, because it takes two. Dr. Tan goes through every result with you.
For both of you
- A proper talk first
- How long you have been trying, your cycles, past pregnancies, health and medicines. It decides which tests you actually need.
- General health and STD screening
- Blood count, blood sugar, thyroid and screening for infections that can affect fertility or a pregnancy, such as chlamydia, HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis.
For her
- Transvaginal ultrasound
- A close-up scan of the womb and ovaries. It shows fibroids, polyps, cysts and signs of PCOS.
- HyFoSy tubal patency test
- Checks that the fallopian tubes are open, using ultrasound and a foam instead of X-ray. An alternative to the HSG test.
- AMH test and ovarian reserve assessment
- A blood test plus a follicle count on the scan, to estimate the egg reserve and plan treatment.
- Female hormone test
- Hormones such as FSH, LH, oestradiol, progesterone, prolactin and thyroid, timed to your cycle, to check whether you ovulate.
For him
- Sperm test (semen analysis)
- Measures how many sperm there are, how well they move and their shape. The clinic tells you how to prepare.
- Male hormone test
- Testosterone, FSH and LH, usually when the sperm test shows a problem.
Fertility treatment
Treatment depends on your results. We start with the simplest step that suits you and only move on if we need to.
Preconception hormone and health optimisation
Getting both of you ready: folic acid, a healthy weight, blood sugar and thyroid under control, and any hormone problem treated first. Sometimes this step alone is enough.
Ovulation induction
Tablets, and sometimes injections, that help the ovaries release an egg. Used when ovulation is irregular or absent, for example with PCOS.
Follicular tracking, endometrial thickness and ovulation tracking
A few short scans across your cycle to watch the egg follicle grow and check the thickness of the womb lining. They show exactly which days are your most fertile.
Trigger injection, IUI and luteal phase support
When the follicle is ready, an ovulation trigger injection times the release of the egg. Intrauterine insemination (IUI) then places washed sperm inside the womb, a quick procedure that feels similar to a Pap smear. Progesterone afterwards supports the womb lining.
What a treatment cycle looks like

Fertility questions
When should we see a doctor about fertility?
If you are under 35 and have been trying for a year, or 35 and over and trying for six months, come in together. Come sooner if periods are irregular or absent, if you have PCOS or endometriosis, or if either of you has had a fertility problem before.
Does my husband need to be tested too?
Yes. A male factor plays a part in many couples who struggle to conceive. A sperm test is simple and quick, and it is arranged by the same clinic, so both of you get answers at the same time.
What is HyFoSy and is it painful?
HyFoSy checks whether the fallopian tubes are open, using ultrasound and a special foam instead of X-ray. It is an alternative to the HSG test. Most women feel period-like cramps for a few minutes. It is done in the days after your period ends and before ovulation.
What is the difference between IUI and IVF?
In IUI, washed sperm is placed inside the womb around the time of ovulation, and fertilisation happens naturally inside the body. In IVF, eggs are collected and fertilised in a laboratory. IUI is simpler and is often tried first. Heracare offers IUI; if IVF is the better option, we refer you to an IVF centre.
How many IUI cycles should we try?
It depends on age, test results and how the body responds. Many couples try three to six cycles before discussing other options. Dr. Tan reviews each cycle with you.

Apa itu HyFoSy? Sakit tak?

Apa itu IUI dan bagaimana prosesnya?
